Frequently Asked Questions

Real Estate/Commercial Photography & Video Tour FAQs

Does someone need to be present during the shoot?

We do have Supra eKey access, so an agent is not required to be present at the time of shooting. That being said, the agent/client is responsible for having an authorized representative at the shoot if they would like to approve the photographer’s interpretation of the project. Your input is important when choosing the best rooms and angles to photograph. Absent your input, the photographer will use his/her best judgment and experience to decide how best to photograph the property. If the client or brokerage representative is not present, the photographer will use their discretion; and that will be deemed acceptable in leu of the clients presence.

Do your services include staging or the moving of items at the location?

We will make a reasonable effort to remove litter, stray objects, etc. from rooms; within reason. However, please note that this does not include things like making beds or arranging furniture. Agents/owners are expected to have the property staged and cleaning completed prior to the shoot. For the most part, all properties will be shot “As Is.”

How long do you spend at the property?

Average time for a standard package set of 25 photos and 60 second video averages around 40-50 minutes. Add-ons like vertical social media reel or aerial images will usually add another 10-15 minutes. But we normally are not at any one (average sized) property longer than 1 to 1.5 hours.

When will the images be ready and how will I get them?

Average return time for all assets is by noon the following day (with the exception of holidays). If there is any delay, we will inform you as soon as we know, and work with our editors to expedite the process if at all possible. As for receiving your assets, we use HDPhotoHub for all of our processes and asset transfers. You should have already signed up and have your username and password created for our back end systems and will receive an email and/or text when your files are ready for review/download.

How do weather conditions impact the photo/video shoot?

In Central Texas, we don’t have a ton of bad weather. But during times of inclement weather, which can impact the taking of exterior or aerial images, we may contact the scheduling agent/client to reschedule.

Do you have any recommendations on preparing for the shoot?

Making a lasting first impression is critical to expediting the sale of your home or property. Presenting your residence in its finest “show ready” condition attracts buyer interest, dramatically increases showings, and ultimately leads to a faster closing. As a seller in today’s market you play an integral role in achieving your ultimate objective. But we don’t expect you to think of everything. So, we’ve prepared a document that will help you prepare your property for sale.

What about pets?

We absolutely love pets! Unfortunately, animals are not allowed in MLS photos and can damage expensive camera equipment. To get the best possible images for your property, we ask that all pets and pet objects (beds, toys, food and water bowls, etc) be removed or hidden away during the shoot.

How many images will I get after the shoot?

Our photo packages are not based on square footage or averages. We offer 25, 40 and 60 photo packages. Your agent will know how many images it normally requires to provide an exceptional representation of your property and its unique features. That being said, if (for example) 25 images are ordered and we determine a few extra pictures may be required to really showcase your property, we will provided more than the ordered amount (on us of course).

How long are the real estate videos you take?

For real estate sales or rentals, we offer video tours of 30 seconds, 1 or 2 minutes. We also offer vertical social media reels of 30 seconds to 1 minute. While those are the finished times of the video products we offer, we will spend 5 – 20 minutes shooting various clips of your property so we have a wide range of visuals to use for the final video.

If we are doing a commercial video for a resort, golf course, multi-unit residential property or large commercial property, the length of the video can range between 2 to 5 minutes; and we will spend 30 – 60 minutes on location.

Who owns the rights to the imagery and videos you take?

Ownership of the images remains with Red Hawk Imagery, and a non-exclusive license is granted to the agent or broker [client]. This non-exclusive license does NOT extend to any third party. Any usage of the images by a third party, including but not limited to: architects, builders, stagers, designers, sellers or buyers, is strictly prohibited unless approved in writing by a representative of Red Hawk Imagery, LLC.

All images produced for a client may be used by that client for any and all marketing materials and campaigns associated with the property and for the client’s self promotion. The photos may also be used by the client’s broker or other agents under the same brokerage for the sole purpose of marketing the specific property photographed.

Licensing for staging companies, contractors or designers is different as the length and types of usage may vary. If you are interested in having us shoot your staged properties or custom builds, please reach out to us to discuss your project.

What is your cancellation policy?

Stuff happens! We get that; and it’s for that reason we don’t charge cancellation fees. We simply ask that you let us know, as soon as possible, if a scheduled shoot needs to be cancelled, and we’ll make every effort to accommodate a re-scheduling.

In the event of inclement weather preventing photography, a new date will be scheduled at the earliest available time.

Aerial Photography/Videography FAQs

What areas do you operate in?

We operate in Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Hays and Travis counties. But depending on the project and timeline, we may be willing to go outside of our normally covered area.

How high can you fly?

Per FAA regulations, we are restricted to fly under 400ft AGL (Above Ground Level). In some areas, like within a 5 mile radius of most airports, we have to contend with controlled airspace which can limit us to as low as 100ft; and in some areas, we are restricted from flying at all. It’s always good to give us a call, or shoot us an email and let us know where exactly you would like us to work, and we can verify our ability to fly or not and provide you with possible options if there are restrictions in your area.

Can you fly in any weather?

No. Our drones can fly in wind with gusts up to 20mph, but we’d do so at the risk of photo and video quality. And, while we can fly on cloudy days, the lack of natural sun light can have an impact on the color and brightness of our images and videos. The best weather to create aerial imagery and videos is with 0 to 30% cloud cover and minimal wind. Depending on your project and timeline, we can plan for good weather and make sure to shoot on those days.

Can you fly anywhere?

Unfortunately not. Some areas, like around airports, sporting arenas (during events), areas of high foot traffic or vehicle traffic, national parks, prisons and some government buildings and military bases prevent us from flying whereever we want. It’s all based on Federal and State laws. Some restrictions we can work around with FAA waivers and some we can’t.

What about privacy rights for my employees or property neighbors?

Being in the state of Texas, we are required under law to abide by the Texas Privacy Act HB 912, Government Code 423. We do everything in our ability to protect the privacy of those not directly related to the work we are doing. In situations when we create imagery or video where people are identifiable, such as touring a golf course when golfers are playing or creating promotional videos for venues or resorts, we will retain releases for any identifiable persons depicted in imagery or video.

What drones do you use?

We use DJI drones for all of our services. Our fleet consists of:
DJI Mavic 3 (High Res Photography and 4K video)
DJI Air 2S (High Res Photography and 4K video)
Phantom 4 Pro V2 (ideal for mapping, orthomosaics and photogrammetry)

What is an FAA part 107 certification and are your pilots FAA certified?

We’re glad you asked. Any drone pilot, capturing imagery or video for commercial use, regardless the type of compensation (even if there is no compensation at all) is required to be FAA Part 107 Certified. By using a certified pilot, you are assured they have gone through extensive training to learn the rules and regulations put forth by the FAA and understand the importance of safe flight. Our pilots, being current in their FAA certifications, means you will have access to 100% legal imagery and videos when you work with us. And, for you Realtors, MLS requires you work with certified, licensed pilots.
